What do all the digits mean on Dell Serial Number labels?
CC-PPPPPP-aaaaa-YMD-bbbb
CC is the country code (CN for China, KR for Korea etc). PPPPPP is the Dell part number. Y is the final digit of the year; the decade is not recorded, as this digit wraps every ten years. M is the base 36 hexadecimal month number, and D is the base-36 day number.
The digits aaaaa and bbbb are numbers that are only stored at Dell Corporation.
Sample:
The following two(2) monitors were both manufactured on 12/08 according to the Serial number sticker.
CN-0X876H-72872-8CG-1MMU
CN-0X876H-72872-8CG-169U
So I guess you could still say that the date is imbedded in there somehow. It does have an 8 in it, but I don't know how you get December out of that.
8CG is the key here
8= Year = 2008
C= Month Jan=1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,A,B,C= Dec.
G= Day - 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,A,B,C,D,E, F, G=16th
This is the same process on all Dell Serial numbers including Laptop batteries, memory, hard drives, motherboards, ext.
